New Writing Classes at Arts YOUniverse!!
Spring Art— I recently heard someone refer to life as more of a spiral than a circle—the idea that we revisit certain spaces and experiences but never come back to them as the same individual. It seems to me the spring is a great physical representation/metaphor for this idea. Using various types of springs, let us, in conjunction with a discussion about the nature of life as a spiral, create art (paint on the springs, use them as sculpture, make hats or glasses, cut them apart, put them back together, mix them with other materials, etc). The class can be tailored for a variety of age groups & skill levels.
Altered Books—For a class or a fundraiser, let’s repurpose books into new works of art!
Albums Through Art— We’ll pick an album & listen through the music & then...we’ll create based on whatever that artist—that album—says to you!
Creativity Slumber Party— Let’s deliberately deprive ourselves of sleep, and create! I suspect many of you are up anyway! Great for kids & adults!
Break Art—Life is a series of breaks. Struggling with grief or illness, dealing with disability, anger issues, or unemployment, or are you generally stressed? Let’s break stuff & put it back together—a new
representation of the item & of the self.
All class dates and times to be scheduled by interest. Classes last 1-2 hours, costing $10, with a min. of 5 participants. Slumber party time/cost TBD.
New Writing Groups at Arts YOUniverse!!
GROUPS:
Little Big Minds— Based on the book, Little Big Minds by Marietta McCarty, this group will explore philosophical topics for kids.
Poetry for Kids—A group for kids to read poetry, learn the meaning of the poems & some new words, talk about & practice recitation, & perhaps even express the poems through another form of art.
Write Yourself Right-Size— A weight-loss program based on the book The Writing Diet: Write Yourself Right-Size by Julia Cameron.
Integrative Arts Support Group— Art, in any of its mediums, is a powerful facilitator of expression & a catalyst to healing. This group seeks to bring together those whose lives have been impacted by cancer, to create & share.
Children’s Literature Reading Group—The value of children’s literature doesn’t diminish when you become an adult. This ‘grown-up’ group will make a selection monthly, & then meet to discuss with a get-together themed around the work.
Our Shared Story—One person starts the story, & the book gets passed around. A great way to get to know others & develop community, especially in an assisted living or nursing home setting!
